Community
The Thalidomide Society
We welcome new members and introduce them to the community.
We support individual and families affected by Thalidomide by providing practical help and advise but community is always seen as the driving force to what we do.
Our Objectives
The Society strives to provide insight and information to anyone seeking to understand the history of thalidomide, contributes to ongoing research and archival material on the drug and supports projects which aim to ensure the impact of thalidomide is never forgotten.

Volunteering
Echoes of Thalidomide – Volunteering opportunity.
Echoes of Thalidomide is a volunteer project that keeps survivor stories alive, raises awareness, and helps make sure a tragedy like this never happens again. By participating in this volunteer opportunity, you will share real experiences, engage with communities, support events, and raise awareness about the lasting impact of Thalidomide and the importance of safe medical practices. If you’d like to be part of something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you.
Connecting
The Thalidomide Society’s AGM is a yearly get together where trustees and members come together to look back on the past year, make key decisions, and talk about what’s coming next. It’s a chance for trustees to share updates on how things have been going, and for members to ask questions and have their voices heard. The AGM usually includes things like reviewing the annual accounts. Positions of Chair and Vice Chair, will also be voted on by the Board of Trustees and appointed thereafter.
Alongside the AGM, the Society’s conferences play an important role in bringing people together. They offer a relaxed and welcoming space where trustees, members, beneficiaries, and supporters can meet, share experiences, and build connections. These events help people learn from one another and feel more connected to the Society and the wider community.
For beneficiaries in particular, the conferences are a really valuable opportunity to come together, hear directly about the charity’s work, and take part in talks and discussions that reflect their own experiences. Catching up with familiar faces and meeting new people helps strengthen a sense of belonging. Alongside the main sessions, social activities such as shared meals and music give everyone the chance to chat, unwind, and enjoy spending time together in a more informal way.
